Fountain of Youth by Shades-ofGray Fountain of Youth by Shades-ofGray
"There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age."

Ahhh!! Feels SO GOOD to do another complete piece! Now that my summer vacation has begun, I plan on really working on a portfolio for myself, which I'm quite excited about =)

Anyway, here is another marker piece, done with Prisma, Spectrum Noir and Copic Markers. I used watercolour paper to give it a nice texture, which i think i will do again.

Hope you enjoy!

The background is very good, however if you want to get your message across more strongly I would advise some anatomy study.

I've done quite a bit of anatomy study (a lot of life drawing), I intentionally elongated the body and bumped out her bum lol XD

Her hands and legs are awkward and unrealistic, and her jawbone doesn't seem to connect to anything and goes on far too far in the direction of the back of her head (also, she has no ears where they should be).

I applaud you on doing life drawing, however the things I mentioned can be too intricate to learn through life drawing and you will need a book like "constructive anatomy" by Bridgman.
To get the best out of your life drawing sessions (can be expensive), make sure you know the rough proportions of the body (you seem to know them allready) before you visit a life drawing session.
Between sessions you can read anatomy books (the ones for illustrators, not medical) to know how things bend and work and what the bigger muscles look like. When you visit a session again you will be armed with a lot more knowledge and you can recognise what you've learned and how they (bones, muscles, tendons, skin) work in real life.
You check off what you've mastered and move on to the next subjects.

A good analogy would be; you can't learn a lot about cars by just looking at them with the hood closed.
You will need to know how the engine works and how it is propulsed, you will need a book that explains all the important parts and where they are.
The same goes for the human body (the internal organs aren't that important but the rest is).
side note; cars are much easier to draw than humans because cars have relatively straight lines and humans are organic blobs supported by a skeleton.

If you were only to do life drawing sessions for your anatomy, you would only learn the rough proportions, volume, light and shadow.
You might learn about muscles, tendons, bones and skin but without a book (or a tutor with a lot of free time) it will take you decades.
And that is okay as well, if drawing is just a hobby/pastime and not that important.

I don't mean to sound mean/crass, if you need recommendations for books just let me know.

Er. K.

Let me rephrase this for you.

I wasn't aiming for accurate anatomy.

I appreciate the recommendations and suggestions but this piece wasn't intended to look anatomically correct in the first place. Had I wanted to, I would have aimed for a more accurate depiction of the human body and not the elongated, almost animated style I went with.
